The bolantes of Luzaide/Valcarlos

Luzaide/Valcarlos, the town that welcomes pilgrims making the trek from France to Santiago de Compostela, can lay claim to some of the oldest and most colourful dances in Navarre. Who performs them? The Bolantes of Luzaide/Valcarlos.

On very special occasions, such as Carnival Sunday and Resurrection Sunday, the air is filled with the tinkling of the bells on their costumes and the brightly coloured ribbons tied to their backs which fly through the air as they leap around. They wear a red beret, hemp sandals, a white shirt and cotton trousers decorated with gold braiding, costume jewellery and red and yellow ribbons.

Bailan el Domingo de Resurección, de 12:00 a 14:00 en la plaza de Santiago y de 17:00 a 19:00 en el frontón Arretxe.
