La Ribera has accommodation for all budgets and tastes, from the hotels in Tudela and the spa at Fitero to the rural houses or hostels near the Bardenas Reales.
A particularly interesting option is a stay in the caves at Valtierra (some of them converted into tourist accommodation), which give an idea of how people lived in this region centuries ago. The beauty of the landscape of the Bardenas Reales Natural Park is nearby; an arid and bare place moulded by the action of strong winds on the clay, chalk and sandstone of the area. It is a moon-like landscape, one where you can lose yourself in its silence.
The impact of the desert-like Bardenas contrasts with the large rivers that cross the south of Navarre, especially the Ebro. They meander across the wide plain of La Ribera, providing fertile land along it that produces such exquisite dishes as menestra, asparagus, chard, borage or red piquillo peppers.
The landscape is rounded off by the olive trees of the Queiles and Alhama valleys and the vineyards, with their twisted vines, that provide the grapes for the excellent 'Navarra' designation of origin wines.
Tudela, the capital of La Ribera, is a city where you can discover the blend of Christian, Arabic and Jewish cultures that have marked its history. On a street corner, under a windowsill, or in the shadow of the eave of a building, you can feel what the city was and is, a tranquil place to wander around at ease.
