An event that originated during the reign of King Carlos III, this is a delightful and very popular livestock fair which dates back to 1419 and is held on the weekend closest to 9th February.
The fair site is filled with horses, mules and donkeys. Hundreds of horses are brought from all over Spain, giving Tafalla a really cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Nowadays, this eminently livestock-orientated fair has been enhanced with various other elements such as books, flowers, vine stocks, agricultural equipment, cars, crafts, etc. Also, the La Tafallesa band livens up the atmosphere with the sounds of the txistu and the gaita.
One of the more unusual events is the Divine Worship Raffle, a tradition that started in 1760, when a pig is raffled to collect funds for a senior citizens' home.
